Safeguarding Children

The following courses are provided by the Workforce Development Unit. Click on the links below to view aims and objectives for each course. We have also provided information on on-line learning that is available, and any learning materials that you may find useful.

Training Event

 

Title: Safeguarding Children - Basic Awareness & Confidence Building - You will need to have completed and passed the Level 2a e-learning before you book for the Level 2b course.

 

 

 

Date(s):  27th February 2012,

                19th April 2012,

                20th June 2012,

                17th September 2012,

                16th November 2012

 

  

Target group:  This training is for staff in regular contact with parents/carers/children, and includes guidance on how to assess and reduce risk and harm. It also supports staff in how to contribute to, formal processes and procedures around child protection and safeguarding. This event is not suitable for people who work in the independent and voluntary sector.

 

Learning outcomes:  (what you could expect to achieve)

  • For participants to understand the context of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people within a statutory framework.

    To enable participants to acquire an increased knowledge in the recognition of child abuse.
  • To provide participants with knowledge of their individual roles and responsibilities and clear understanding of what is expected of them within their agency when they are concerned about a child or young person’s welfare.

    Provide a forum for discussing best practice when working with children and young people.
  • Debate the implications of working with diversity and safeguarding issues.

 

 

Training Event

 

Title: Safeguarding Children Investigators (This is a 4

          day course)

 

Date(s):  TBC - 2012

  

Target group:  This training is for staff members with a particular responsibility for ensuring that children are safeguarded such as designated or named professionals, those who undertake section 47 enquiries or who have case responsibility for complex safeguarding cases. e.g. Social Workers. This event is not suitable for people who work in the independent and voluntary sector.

 

Learning outcomes:  (what you could expect to achieve)

Explore child protection practice in relation to legislation, policy and procedures.

  • Knowledge of signs & indicators and research that informs enquiries and assessment.

    Awareness of roles & responsibilities in relation to a Section 47 enquiry
