  • Understand the ways in which sensory impairment affects older people in the care system, and offers a wide range of ways to support them.

  • Understanding about the issues for people with learning difficulties who have sight or dual sensory loss

Are you promoting independence and improving lives?

Slight loss is one of the major causes of disability in the UK today.  There are nearly 6,000 blind and partially sighted people registered in Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland, using YOUR services.

How can you help?

 

Understanding Visual Impairment – Awareness Training

 

Upon completion of the course participants will

  • Have an insight into the way that barriers, experienced by people with sight loss, can be removed or reduced.

  • Be familiar with Vista services, the benefits of registration and rehabilitation

  • Understand the prevalence, symptoms and causes and effects of sight and dual sensory loss

  • Understand effective and appropriate methods of communication and providing information

  • Be aware of safe environmental design, gadgets and aids to daily living

  • Be able to implement practical sighted – guiding skills
