Title: Working with Parents Using Motivational Interviewing Approaches

 

Dates: 9th, 10th May & 12th June 2012.

           13th, 14th November & 17th December 2012.

 

Target group:   Practitioners who undertake direct work with children and their families. This event is suitable for people in the above role who work in the independent and voluntary sector.

 

Learning outcomes:  (what you could expect to achieve)

 

  • Understanding of a model of change and its application to their work.

  • Basic principles and techniques of motivational interviewing.

  • Examined their own reactions  to working with parents/carers who are ambivalent and will have identified creative ways of responding.

  • Assumptions and attitudinal barriers to work with disabled parents or parents where substance misuse and domestic violence are features.

  • Practical approaches to work with parents/carers who have learning disabilities

  • Personal impact of the work and action to support their own emotional well-being.
