There are nationally recognised Induction Awards within the Learning Disability Qualification at Levels 2 & 3.
We are working with Leicester College and Leicestershire NHS Partnership Trust to provide LDQ and have registration with City & Guilds.
The Induction Awards have four units.
- Principles of learning disability support
- Your role as a learning disability worker
- Health and Safety in a learning disability service
- Protecting people who have learning disabilities from abuse
LDQ is an important qualification as it proves to employers that workers have completed the Common Induction Standards (CIS) with a specific focus on the support that people with a learning disability require.
LDQ recognises that people in different positions may need different information.
Learning is assessed by the completion of 4 workbooks.
Student support via Leicester College is available and various reasonable adjustments can be made to support disabled students.
For city council employees the Learning Disability Service has agreed 4 hours study time in order to complete workbooks. This needs to be negotiated locally.
City Council workers access LDQ directly through WDU.
Financial Support to undertake the Learning Disability Qualification
Financial Support is available for employees of Independent and Voluntary sector (IVS) organisations to undertake the LDQ award. The funding is limited and unfortunately there would not be enough to fund every employee or every IVS organisation in the city. When dealing with requests for funding it is important that we consider future demand and therefore funding requests will not be agreed for entire services or teams. The LDQ is designed as an Induction Award and is therefore most relevant to new staff or for those in the first year of their employment in LD Care Services.
Leicester City council has adopted a Distance Learning model for the delivery of its LDQ programme in partnership with The Association for Real Change (ARC) and is assessed by Training and Assessment UK (TASS).
