What is advocacy?
If you are a carer of someone
using services or asking for services provided by Adult Social Care, you
may find that it is not always easy to express your wishes or preferences.
If decisions are being made that
affect your future, you may feel that your side of the discussion is not being
put across properly.
An advocate is a person who can
speak up for you in these situations.
For example. you might be
finding it difficult to say what you want when:
-
You want to complete a self-assessment
-
You are involved in the complaints procedure
-
You are involved in an Adult at Risk conference or review
We have a duty to make advocacy
services available if required to anyone who is making or intending to make a
complaint.
Who provides
advocacy for carers?
We have a contract with CLASP
The Carers Centre to provide advocacy for carers, but there are a number of
organisations that can provide this service.
You can either ask us to provide
you with contact details for an independent advocacy service or you can contact
them directly.
You can find contact details
from the Directory of Advocacy Services.
