If you are a carer who is also in a paid job, you
also have the right to request flexible working to help you with your caring
responsibilities. This right comes from the Work and Families Act 2006.
If you need flexible
starting and finishing times, compressed working hours or other flexible
arrangements, you can make a formal request for these from your employer, as a
result of this Act. Your employer can only refuse your request if there is a
strong business reason for the refusal.
Flexible working
rights are being extended so it is worth checking the current position.

Your carers assessment should look at how any
services you or the person you care for receive can support you to combine your
caring responsibilities with paid work. It might be worth thinking about
whether taking a Direct Payment and arranging services yourself might give you
more flexibility that fits in with your working routine.
