The following is a brief description of some of the services we may be able to arrange to help adults who are physically disabled and/or sensory impaired and their carers.
It is not intended to be a full list, as services are wide-ranging and may vary depending on individual needs.

Advice and Information - you can to talk to our experienced staff who can offer advice or information about disability issues.

Advocacy for Social Services Clients - Advocacy is when someone supports you to speak up, or speaks on your behalf to help you get what you are entitled to.

Assistive Technology is a term used to describe any device or piece of equipment that assists with daily living by managing risk and/or making tasks more accessible.

Blue Badge - (Disabled People - Parking Permits) scheme is designed to allow badge holders access to on street parking close to their destination.

Design for Disabled People Information on town and building design, access to public buildings, including any grants that may be available for adaptations and advice on Part 3 of the Disability Discrimination Act (Access to Goods, Services and Facilities).

Disabled parking spaces for residents are known as ADPPPs. This stands for Advisory Disabled Persons Parking Place, and are marked out on the road with white paint outside your residence.

DisabledGo – Access guides for local services and venues to provide accurate, useful information so you can make an informed choice about accessing your local services.

Disabled people home adaptations and aids - We give advice about better ways of doing things. We may be able, dependent on your assessed need, to give you equipment to make life easier, or simple adaptations like handrails.

Disability Sports Services are committed to improving opportunities for disabled people to participate in sport and physical activity.

Dropped kerbs on pavements are constructed by the City Council to help wheelchair users.

Help for disabled council tenants - If you are a City Council tenant and have a disability we may be able to help.

Home Care - this service offers support with essential tasks for people with disabilities living at home.

Home Library Service - Do you find it difficult to get to your local library or physically unable to get to your library and have no one to help you?

Housing for Council tenant with a physical disability and need your home adapting to meet your needs

Independent Living Schemes - individuals may be eligible for money to purchase their own personal help to support them in the community.

Laundry Service - available for older and disabled people who are assessed as being in need of help with their washing.

Learning Disability Service is committed to helping and supporting people with learning disabilities living in the City of Leicester.

Leicester Shopmobility/Easy Riders is a wheelchair loan scheme which operates daily from level two of the Shires car park in High Street and from the Charles Street Bus Station next to the Haymarket.

Mobile Meals (Meals on Wheels) - a hot meal delivered to your home, catering for Asian, Asian vegetarian, African Caribbean and other dietary or cultural needs.

Occupational Therapy - advice from occupational therapists to help with daily living at home. We may also be able to provide equipment or provide simple adaptations like handrails.

The Promoting Independence Unit (PIU) main focus is to enable physically and sensory disabled people to live as independently as possible within their own homes.

RADAR keys - Some of the public toilets provided by the city council are suitable for wheelchair users and are fitted with RADAR locks.

Respite Care for Adults - offering an opportunity for those with social care needs to have a break from the home environment. Day services can also give carers a break from their caring responsibilities.

Right to Control Trailblazer goes live! - Leicester is one of a small number of local authority areas selected by the government to test out Right to Control before a decision is made on whether to implement it more widely.

Welfare Rights - we can offer advice on benefits entitlement from the Department of Work and Pensions (formerly the Benefits Agency). We can also check that you are getting all the benefits you are entitled to.
