Leicester is one of a small number of local authority areas selected by the government to test out Right to Control before a decision is made on whether to implement it more widely.
The trailblazer is a partnership arrangement between Adult Social Care at the Council, Jobcentre Plus and Leicestershire Centre for Integrated Living.
There are six public funding streams in the trailblazer:-
- Access to Work
- Work Choice
- Adult Social Care Services
- Disabled Facilities Grant
- Housing Related Support
- Independent Living Fund.
From 13 December, disabled people in Leicester who receive one or more of these services will be eligible to get Right to Control, meaning staff in these six areas will be working together to improve how they deliver support to disabled people. For example, ensuring that disabled people are told about all relevant funding and help that is available to them; enabling disabled people to have part or full control over the support they receive, by allowing them the option to take a cash payment to buy the help or equipment they need; developing common personalised support planning across the support services.
