The Council is a key member of the Leicester Domestic Violence Forum Partnership, which runs a domestic violence awareness campaign each year around the end of November.
In 2010 the campaign will run from week beginning 22nd November to 26th November. The key aim of the campaign has been to increase understanding of what domestic violence is, to make people aware of the resources that are available locally and to challenge acceptance of domestic violence.
It is surprising how many people in Leicester still don’t know that there are services to help them if they are affected by domestic violence. Many victims may accept the abuse or think that no one will believe them. Often perpetrators of domestic violence will keep on justifying their own abusive behaviour. These attitudes and beliefs are what we wish to change.
This is where you CAN do something; we need all service areas to be proactive about raising awareness of domestic violence and support services in Leicester.
If you would like to participate in the campaign or generally promote domestic violence within your organisation or services the forum has a number of resources available including posters, leaflets and other booklets for public displays.
If you would like resources to distribute please contact, for hard copies call 0116 252 6574 or email
