Wherever you live – in the city, county or nearby – if you have ever thought about becoming a foster carer or adopter why not contact us and find out more?
You can talk to professional advisors and meet people with personal experience of fostering and adoption. No one will try to talk you into anything – we will just answer any questions you have and give their best advice on what to do next. This could be advice on planning for this year, next year or sometime in the future.
New families are always needed for babies, toddlers and school-age children. Several are in sibling groups of two, three or more who need to stay together.
The Fostering and Adoption Centre advises people to never rule themselves out. You could be just the person a child is waiting for. And there are different fostering schemes to consider as well as adoption.
Families with their own children are very welcome; so are single people and couples – married, living together or in civil partnerships. Carers and adopters are usually aged 20s to 50s.
Leicester’s Fostering and Adoption Centre is asking people from all areas of the city and county and nearby to think about whether they can help change the lives of local children. This is a big thing to ask, but it is necessary because every week brings more babies, toddlers and school-age children into the care of the local authority. The best place for most of them is within a loving family home. This is where a child can find happiness and stability and start to look forward to a brighter future.
Paul Morley from the centre on Friar Lane explains: “Over the years we have helped hundreds of people to achieve their dreams of becoming adopters or foster carers. They have all told us that becoming a new family for one or more children is the most rewarding thing they have ever done. People tell us of their joy in quite simple things like hearing a child laugh for the first time or seeing an older child gain in confidence. I’d advise anyone who has ever thought about fostering or adoption to ring us up and talk to us. Whether you are single, a couple, or already have a family of your own, we would love you to get in touch. You won’t only be changing a child’s life, but your own too.”
Becoming a foster carer or adopter is probably more straightforward than most people think. Staff at the Fostering and Adoption centre have many years experience helping applicants along every step of the way; with excellent training and preparation; and with care and support after the children arrive.
