Falls Community Resource

Any one can have a fall, at anytime, any place, due to many different reasons, resulting in pain, disability, broken bones and even death in some cases.

Falls remains the biggest cause of accidental death for older people. About one third of people aged over 65 years of age will fall each year.

Falls also lead to people becoming isolated as they develop a “fear of falling factor” and often choose to reduce their social life and their daily home activities, in order to minimise their risks of falling.

It is difficult to stop people falling but it is known that 50% of all falls can be preventable and again 50% of these falls are due to an accident or a trip.

Therefore it is important to raise awareness of falls prevention, which is the aim of this of this web page.

Providing local people with falls prevention information and resources, so that they can remain SAFE, ACTIVE, and INDEPENDENT.

This Leicester City Falls Community Resource Directory has been compiled with details of service organisations in the Leicester City area to support people who have fallen or maybe at risk of falling.

Please remember that falls are NOT AN INEVITABLE part of getting old.
