Adult Placement Service

Overall Aim

Adult Placement offers people an alternative and highly flexible form of accommodation and/or care or support inside or outside the home, which is provided by ordinary individuals or families in the local community.

This alternative – which enables the person to share in the life and activities of the Adult Placement Carer.  Adult placement enables a wide range of vulnerable people who need support to live independent lives, promotes their health and well-being, and reduces the need for hospitalisation or admission to care.

Objectives

  • People in adult placements have the opportunity to share the daily life of the adult placement carer, family and friends and to live an ordinary domestic life in the same kind of home as others in the local community.

  • A Person in an adult placement is supported by the carer and scheme to live a full and independent life, and is well supported in making their own choices and living the kind of life they want to live.

  • People in adult placements are entitled to enjoy all the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.

  • Fundamental to any adult placement is the promotion of the physical, emotional and spiritual well being of the person placed and their protection from abuse and harm.

  • The scheme aims to offer high quality and well matched placements to all the racially and culturally diverse communities of Leicester.

  • The scheme aims to offer a service to carers of service users in the community to enable them to continue caring.  Continued contact of service users with their relatives and friends is welcomed and encouraged by the adult placement carer and scheme, whether they are staying during the daytime, for a short break, or long term with an adult placement carer.

  • The scheme aims that Adult Placement carers should feel valued and well supported and have opportunities for further training.

  • The scheme aims to continuously evaluate and improve the quality of service it offers. The scheme aims to consult by spoken and written word with service users and carers to hear their views.

Philosophy of Care

The philosophy of the service is based on the Governments White Paper ‘Valuing People’ and we are committed to providing each service user with the appropriate support to enable them to exercise their rights as a human being, to be as independent as possible, and to have choice and control in their life and we will continue to work towards achieving social inclusion for all.
