Arranging services and everyday living

Arranging services and everyday living
Arranging services and everyday living

We provide and arrange services for people with mental health difficulties that help them with the problems of everyday living.

We also arrange services for people from all cultural backgrounds, and will arrange for an interpreter if the preferred spoken language is not English.

An important part of our work is to ensure we also meet the needs of the people who care for someone with mental health difficulties.

The sorts of things we do to help meet people’s assessed needs include:

  • providing information and advice on the social care needs of people with mental health difficulties
  • providing help and support when being admitted or discharged from hospital
  • intensive support at home
  • domiciliary care services for people who need help with personal care and practical tasks in the home
  • mobile meals
  • providing opportunities to be involved in purposeful social, recreational and other daytime activities
  • help with arranging adaptations to people’s homes
  • arranging supported living accommodation
  • arranging appropriate assessment and care for people who are a danger to themselves or others
  • arranging short or longer-term residential care when this is necessary
  • help with substance and alcohol misuse and advice on HIV/AIDS, if required
  • providing links with local self help groups, support groups or drop-in centres
  • advice on benefits claims from the Department of Work and Pensions (commonly known as 'Social Security')
  • referral to a more appropriate council department or to other agencies better placed to meet individual needs
  • assessment and support to carers who look after someone with mental health difficulties
  • funding appropriate groups and organisations.

People in greatest need and at most risk are first to receive services.  Guidelines, known as ‘eligibility criteria’, along with our assessment of an individual’s needs will determine what help can be offered.

Our staff will discuss with people the concerns they have about members of their family who may have mental health difficulties.
