At Leicester City Council we are changing the way we deliver adult social care and support services. We want to give you more choice and control in the way you live your life.
The changes are a result of Putting People First, a national policy that recognises that there should be a personal approach to care. We will work with you to help find the right support for your needs.
Personal budgets
In the future, everyone who is eligible for financial support from us will receive a personal budget, (sometimes called an individual budget) for their social care and support needs.
The amount you receive will depend on your individual circumstances.
When the amount has been decided, we will then discuss the options with you to:
Help you to decide how your budget could be spent.
-
Provide you with information and advice about what services are available.
-
Help you as much or as little as you would like to organise your services and manage your budget.
How will this work?
At the moment an elderly person who needs help to get washed and dressed is likely to be offered home care organised by the council.
The new way of working will mean that they will be able to use their personal budget to choose their own home care provder. They may even choose to pay a family member to care for them.
You will see the changes that are happening take place gradually over the next couple of years.
