Why is this important?
Clearly there are statutory reasons for example within health and safety legislation for employers to have in place the appropriate policies, practices and support for the workforce. Research has now demonstrated that mental, physical illness, and stress are associated with many of the leading causes of disease and disability in our society. Promoting and protecting the mental wellbeing of the workforce is important for individuals’ physical health, social wellbeing and productivity. There is therefore a business case for an employer to do their part and also a personal responsibility for all individuals – everyone can contribute to understanding and addressing the factors which affect health and wellbeing at work which will bring a wide range of benefits for the organisation and for individuals.

How do I find my way around this site?
The tree provides links to information for Leicester children’s workforce. This website is part of our approach to support our workforce to achieve the best health and wellbeing they can. The resources are organised into five areas and by clicking on the dark green leaf for the area you wish to explore this will lead you to the resources relevant to you. The resources are provided both to support individuals wanting information or for employers of partner organisations:
• If you are either an employer or a manager then ‘Creating a healthy organisation’ incorporates advice and policies that can be implemented at a range of levels. Information is provided that individual managers can and indeed should take with their workforce. For example, audit tools for use at organisation/service level, as well as with individuals. You can also use the schools' work life balance policy as a template to develop something more pertinent for your needs.
• If you are an individual then you can find out about the potential risks to your health, and actions you can take to improve your personal health and wellbeing. Sometimes we can damage our own health and wellbeing, and that of our families simply because we do not know that our work or lifestyle presents certain risks. Click on the leaf ‘What can I do for myself?’ as this information will suggest potential solutions and support that you can access.
We are keen to receive comment or feedback on the information provided. We will include examples of effective practice that you incorporate within your worklife balance wellbeing initiatives. Please e-mail cwt@leicester.gov.uk or complete the attached evaluation form.
