What is the core offer?
One of the tasks of the IIOC Strategic Review is to develop what is called a core offer. The core offer is a document that contains a number of statements about the types of activities and interventions that are needed in Leicester to meet the needs of children, young people and their families.
Core offer update (April 2011)
Leicester City Council (LCC) is currently developing the core offer and plans to consult on what it should look like between April and July 2011.
Why is LCC developing a core offer?
The core offer will help LCC and its partners to decide how to use their resources to best meet the needs of children, young people and families.
LCC will not be responsible for funding everything that is in the core offer. LCC's first priority is to focus on the activities and interventions that fulfil the statutory duties placed upon it by central Government - these must be delivered by law.
LCC may also deliver non-statutory activities and interventions. Which of these LCC delivers will be decided through consultation with partners, children, young people and families.
What will influence the content of the core offer?
The activities and interventions that make up the core offer will:
- help achieve Leicester's priorities for children and young people. These priorities
are to 'Close the Well being Gap' and 'Improve Aspiration and Attainment'.
- help LCC to meet its statutory duties
- be supported by evidence that shows they work in terms of supporting the
needs of children, young people and families.
