Leicester City Council is required to maintain, under Section 36(6) of the Highways Act 1980, an up to date list of streets within the city.
The List of Streets principally contains an alphabetical list of highways - streets, footpaths, bridleways and cycle tracks - that are adopted (maintainable at public expense). It also lists those highways that are unadopted (maintained privately) as well as a developing record of permissive paths and named private accesses. Each entry is identified by its start and finish point and the record includes classified road number, where appropriate and the definitive map reference number for each mapped footpath and bridleway.
Any of the following legal events can cause the List of Streets to be amended:
Naming of a new street
Renaming of an existing street
Adoption of an unadopted street
Stopping up of a street
Classification or declassification of a street
Amendment of the definitive map of public rights of way
The List of Streets is produced and amended by the Highway Strategy Team. For more information regarding particular records please contact Richard Pepper on 0116 252 6545 [richard.pepper@leicester.gov.uk] or Paul Standley on 0116 252 6605
[paul.standley@leicester.gov.uk].
The List of Streets, which is regularly updated, can be accessed via the document link below. The document is internally bookmarked for ease of navigation.
A document link is also provided to a list of amendments which have been made to the List of Streets since late 2006. This list is provided for information only, it is not comprehensive and should not be treated as a substitute for the List of Streets itself.
