Who is eligible?
People living in Leicester who are of female state pension age. You can calculate your state pension age using the calculator, or download the table of dates of eligibility at the bottom of this page.
If you have a disabled person's concession you cannot have a senior citizen’s pass as well. However, the disabled persons' passes have greater validity, so if you are a senior citizen with a disability, it is more advantageous to apply for a disabled person's pass.
What benefits will the pass give me?
The pass can be used for free or reduced rates of travel, on buses and trains in Leicestershire and into neighbouring counties and on local buses throughout England.
What services can they be used on?
The pass can be used for free travel on buses in Leicester and on local buses throughout England, between 9.30 am and 11.00 pm on Mondays to Fridays and all day on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays. Additionally, the pass will entitle you to half fare bus travel before 9.30 am and free bus travel between 11pm and midnight on Mondays to Fridays, if the journey starts in Leicester.
The pass entitles you to half fare travel on local trains, on journeys from Leicester Station as far as Derby, Nottingham, Peterborough, Kettering or Nuneaton and back.
What services is the pass not valid on?
The pass is not valid on:
- Bus services in Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.
- National Express and similar long distance coach services.
- Tram services or the London Underground.
What does half-fare mean?
Half of a standard single or return fare.
How long are the passes valid for?
Passes will be dated to expire 5 years after the issue date. When nearing the expiry date, we will contact you to begin the renewal process.
Is there a charge for the concession?
There is no charge for concessions.
How do I apply?
The application form can be obtained in any of the following ways:
- Download the application form at the bottom of this page. Once completed, return it in person or by post to any of our Customer Service Centres. Forms can also be collected in person from the Centres.

When you have completed the form, you will need to provide the following:
- Proof of entitlement by age; an official document showing your date of birth (photocopies are accepted).
- A passport sized photo. All Customer Service Centres have digital cameras attached to their computers.
- Proof of your residency in Leicester.
Note: If you wish to provide your own photograph it should be recent and clear. It may be either from a booth or ordinary photographs which we can cut to size; with your name on the back.
Returning Your Completed Form
Either take the form, or send it by post, to a Customer Service Centre.
Your proof of entitlement will be returned to you with your pass.
Please allow up to 28 days for issue. Please note the date you posted your application. If you have not received your pass within 28 days please contact the Customer Service Centre on 0116 454 1000
