Foreign travel costs

On rare occasions, councillors or officers need to make overseas trips. These are kept under scrutiny; the cost we incur is reducing.

The most usual occasions for foreign travel are:

  • As part of joint European projects, where the cost of attendance is met by the European Union
  • To assess whether or not it is safe for a child in our care to return to a home overseas, and to accompany them if it is (sometimes, this is done as a requirement of a court order)
  • To seek funding for the council or the city.
