Step-Up work placements

We launched the Step-Up employment initiative to encourage employers to provide paid work placements for unemployed people aged 18 to 24, who have been claiming jobseeker’s allowance or employment support allowance for a minimum of six months.

What we've done so far

We have supported over 250 unemployed individuals to gain work placements through this scheme, which has made a significant impact on tackling youth unemployment across the city. So far an average 75% of employees that have exited phase 2 of the scheme are not claiming job seekers benefits, which is great progress.

We will continue to support those who remain on Step-Up and provide the necessary skills to help them find long-term employment.

What's next?

We are currently not recruiting for any more external posts. However, an evaluation of the scheme has been completed. This will help inform the planning process for a potential new scheme. You can find the evaluation report below.
