Allowances

We offer a number of allowances to staff, including discounted leisure centre memberships, free eye tests and salary sacrifice schemes.

Annual leave

You will be entitled to 21 days annual leave in a full year, rising to 26 after five years’ local government service.

Buy additional leave

Employees can buy additional leave, subject to certain conditions.

Maternity/adoption leave

You are entitled to up to 52 weeks’ leave, with pay to a specific period, dependent on length of service.

Paternity/adoption support leave

You can take up to 10 days paid leave within 56 days of the birth of your child. If your child is adopted, from the date of the placement, you receive pay with more than 26 weeks service.

Free eye tests

You will receive help with your eye care if your work involves significant periods of time looking at a computer screen.   

Discounted leisure centre membership

As an employee you can get discounts on your annual and monthly membership.

Relocation

In some cases we may offer relocation assistance if you are moving to Leicester to join us.

Salary sacrifice schemes

As an employee you are able to purchase benefits from your salary before it is taxed, potentially saving you hundreds of pounds each year.  The schemes currently in operation are: 

  • Cycle to Work scheme – You can apply for a tax-free bikes for work scheme, designed to promote healthy travel to work and reduce our carbon footprint.  This is a voucher scheme, which you redeem when you collect your bike from a participating shop
  • Childcare scheme - We offer a childcare voucher scheme, which allows money to be taken out of your salary before tax and National Insurance. This is paid directly to childcare providers.  Savings are made as the amount sacrificed is exempt from tax and National Insurance
  • Home Technology scheme – You can give up a portion of your salary, in exchange for use of a home computer, mobile phone, TV and other items of technology, over a three year period.  Contributions are exempt from National Insurance and have some tax saving
  • Bus salary sacrifice - Allows you to purchase either an Arriva or First Bus annual season tickets, meaning you could make significant savings and spread the cost of your ticket.

Employee long service award

Staff who have worked with us for 25 years or more receive a certificate and £250 of high street vouchers.
