Garden Waste

The optional garden waste service is available to households across Leicester. We will collect garden waste, such as leaves, twigs and grass cuttings, fortnightly on Mondays between March and October. Subscriptions will need to be renewed every 12 months.

Please note we will send a renewal letter and invoice to you approximately six weeks prior to your renewal date explaining how you can sign up for another year of the garden waste service.

How does the service work?

We will collect garden waste, such as leaves, twigs and grass cuttings, fortnightly on Mondays between March and October. The service costs £30 for a 12 month subscription. You can sign up for additional bins at a cost of £20 each. Subscriptions will need to be renewed every 12 months.
After you have signed up, we will deliver a green wheeled bin and a collection calendar. You can also download a collection calendar at the bottom of the page or use the following links.

Calendar A is for people whose black bins are collected on a Tuesday or Wednesday
Calendar B is for people whose black bins are collected on a Thursday or Friday

How much does it cost?

The service will cost £30 for the year

What can go in the green bin?

What can’t go in the green bin?

  • Food waste
  • Treated wood
  • Logs/large branches (over 150mm in thickness)
  • Soil or turf
  • Plastic bags
  • Plant pots or seed trays
  • Gravel or stones
  • Pond sludge
  • Animal faeces
  • Dead animals
  • Garden twine
  • Japanese knot weed
  • Biodegradable bags/liners
