Newarke Houses Museum
Newarke Houses museum and gardens includes the museum of the Royal Leicestershire Regiment.
The museum is composed of two historic houses, Wygston's Chantry House and Skeffington House and tells the social history of Leicester. Discover the history of the Regiment, including a recreation of a First World War trench with sound and lighting.
The museum displays include a cinema experience, a collection of toys from Tudor to present day and a play area for children to try various games. Find out more about Leicester’s famous son Daniel Lambert and visit a 1950s street scene inspired by Wharf Street, Leicester.

Staff training - changes to museum opening times
Please note due to staff training the museum will open at 11am on Wednesday 29 November and Friday 1 December 2017. On Thursday 14 December, the museum will open at 11.30am.
Is the museum available for hire?
The museum also offers a range of meeting rooms and exhibition spaces available for:
- Private hire
- School visits
- Birthday parties
- Artist exhibitions (groups and individuals)
The refurbishment of the museum was funded by a £1 million Heritage Lottery Fund grant and a further £250,000 from Royal Leicestershire Regimental Association which we also contributed to.
We have recently opened the newly refurbish garden galleries. These spaces are ideal for individual or group exhibitions.

- Newarke Houses Museum is approximately ten minutes walk from Leicester city centre situated close to De Montfort University's city campus
- Nearby pay and display parking on The Newarke is available. A number of car parks around the area are also available including at the Holiday Inn or at York Road, within 10 minutes walk.
Newarke Houses Museum has full disabled access inside the museum, with a lift providing access to the first floor galleries and an accessible toilet available.
Some areas of the garden are not fully accessible due to steps.

Memory box programme
For people living with dementia their own personal history and memory is very important. Newarke Houses Museum have set up memory boxes and a trail to support those with dementia. This is so we can grow to understand how participation in our museum projects can have a meaningful impact on people who are most vulnerable in our communities.
