Christmas opening hours at city council facilities

Published on 23 December 2016

CUSTOMERS are advised to check the opening hours at city council leisure centres, libraries and recycling centres before planning a visit over the Christmas period.

City council offices will close at 4.30pm today (Friday 23 December) and re-open on Thursday 29 December and Friday 30 December.

Customer service centres and the customer service phone line will then not be available again until Tuesday 3 January.

Some libraries will be closed – or close earlier than usual – on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, but most will open as normal on Thursday 29 December and Friday 30 December.

Leisure centres will close at 1.30pm on Christmas Eve, but most will re-open – with reduced opening hours – on Tuesday 27 December.

All sites will be closed on Sunday 1 January, but most will open on Monday 2 January to help everyone stick to their new year’s resolutions.

The exceptions are Saffron Lane athletics track and St Margaret’s Pastures, which will be closed from Christmas Eve (Saturday 24 December) until Tuesday 3 January.

Leicester City Council household waste recycling centres at Gypsum Close and Freemen’s Common will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. They will also close early – at 2pm – on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

Recycling and black wheelie bin collections will be unchanged over the Christmas period, so residents whose collection is normally on a Tuesday should put their orange bags and bins out as usual on Tuesday 27 December.
