Bridge repairs to take place
Published on 02 March 2017
REPAIRS are due to be carried out on a road bridge at the junction of Highway Road and Stoughton Road in Stoneygate.
The deck of the bridge which spans Evington Brook is in poor condition and needs to be replaced, meaning the route will be closed to traffic while the work is carried out.
Repairs are due to begin on Monday, March 13, 2017, and are expected to last 12 weeks. They will involve removing the carriageway surface, bridge deck and support beams, followed by repairs to the existing bridge structure, installing new support beams, rebuilding the bridge deck and finally resurfacing the carriageway.
The road will be closed between the junction of Highway Road/Stoughton Road, and the junction of Highway Road/Broadway Road.
Pedestrians will be able to continue using the road via signed walkways, with traffic following a diversion via Gartree Road, Stoughton Drive and Romway Road. Clear signs will be in place.
Leaflets outlining the works and road closure are being delivered to local residents and businesses, and school bus operators have also been made aware of the changes.
The work will cost about £230,000 and is funded from the city council’s Capital Maintenance Budget.
