New square hosts antiques market

LEICESTER’S new market square will soon be filled with curios, collectables and vintage items as a programme of weekly antiques markets gets under way.
Operated by specialists Antiques2Go, the first of the markets will take place on Monday 4 September.
Markets development officer Adam Piotrowski said: “Antiques markets are always popular, so we’re expecting these events to attract collectors and dealers, as well as people who just want to come down and browse.
“The new market square is the perfect location for speciality markets, and we’ll be using the space for more of these types of events in the coming weeks and months.”
Steve Heritage of Antiques2Go said: “We are delighted to be working with Leicester City Council and look forward to bringing an eclectic mix of antiques and vintage to this vibrant city on a weekly basis.”
The antiques market will be open from 9am until 4pm every Monday from 4 September.
It is one of a number of events taking place in Leicester’s new market square.
Since opening in June, the new square has hosted a gin festival, tai-chi sessions, a performance by the London Street Orchestra and a Makers’ Market.
It’s also one of the venues for this summer’s City Festival, with the next event – Monster Colours – due to fill the space with some beautifully designed interactive games on Friday (25 August).
Free tai-chi sessions take place at 7.45am every Tuesday and Saturday, while the monthly Makers’ Market returns on Sunday 3 September.
