Children’s sports activities on offer for half term

SPORTS activities for children of all ages will be taking place across Leicester during half-term (16-20 Oct).
The city council’s Active Leicester scheme is running a series of low-cost sessions including swimming, climbing and fitness classes at its leisure centres across the city.
At Aylestone Leisure Centre, on Monday 16 and Thursday 19 October, there will be family splash pool sessions, suitable for all ages, running from 9.45am-11am.
From Monday to Friday at Braunstone Leisure Centre, there will be 20-minute one-to-one learn to swim sessions to help children boost their confidence, have fun and keep active during the holidays. Book on 0116 229 3229.
Children aged 7-11 can try at a Junior Funtastic Fitness Class at Leicester Leys Leisure Centre on Tuesday (17), at a cost of £2 per child. The class takes place from 4-5pm. To book, call 0116 233 3070.
Budding synchronised swimmers can have a go at a taster class at Aylestone Leisure Centre from Monday-Thursday, 8.30-9.15am. Participants will get an introduction to the basic skills needed for synchronised swimming. Swimmers need to have passed their stage 5 Swim Leicester badge to attend. Booking is essential on 0116 233 3040.
On Thursday 19 October, there’s a splash disco, suitable for all ages, from 1.30pm-3pm at Spence Street Sports Centre. And at New Parks Leisure Centre, on Saturday 21 October, there’s free swimming for under-16 city residents between 9am and 11.45am.
Children aged 8-17 who want to give climbing a go – even if they’ve never climbed before – can scale new heights at the Tower Climbing Centre, in Leicester Leys Leisure Centre, over the holidays. Drop-in sessions will be running from 12pm-2pm on Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 October. Booking is essential on 0116 233 3074.
Climbing taster sessions, lasting 45 minutes, will also be available from Monday to Friday at various times. Each session is for up to six people and all of the necessary equipment is provided. Booking is essential.
