Ice rink will be back next Christmas says City Mayor

LEICESTER’S ice rink closes at 8pm tonight (Monday 8 January) – but the good news is that it will be back in Jubilee Square next Christmas.
More than 25,000 people have enjoyed a spin on the ice since it opened on 9 December, equating to around 900 people per day. With many sessions at peak times fully booked, the ice rink has exceeded all expectations – and City Mayor Peter Soulsby is keen to see it back in Leicester next Christmas.
“Creating a real ice rink in the heart of the city centre was clearly worth doing,” he said.
“The public’s response has been fantastic, with many people making repeat visits to the ice rink during the school holidays and over the festive period.
“We can now look ahead to next winter, when an ice rink will once again be at the heart of Leicester’s Christmas attractions.”
The city council will now be looking at what else can be done to make the ice rink even more popular. Proposals for a larger rink will be considered and opening hours will be looked at as part of the preparations for next Christmas.
