A NEW 20mph zone is to be brought in on residential streets around a city school.
Leicester City Council is introducing the speed limit in streets around Marriott Primary School, in the Saffron estate, following consultation with local residents.
The scheme is the latest in a programme of 20mph zones to improve safety, cut accidents, and encourage more cycling and walking.
The new 20mph zone will include Gedge Way, Marriott Road, Fayrhurst Road, Melland Place, Broughton Road and North End Close.
Over 300 households on those streets were asked for their views – 95 per cent of those who responded supported the introduction of a 20mph zone. Marriott Primary School also backed the plans.
The scheme is due to come into effect in April 2018.
