Surface dressing programme to begin

Leicester City Council is carrying out the rolling maintenance programme of micro asphalt works, which involves adding a new surface to roads which are worn but structurally sound.
The process is a cost-effective way of improving road surfaces which don’t need any major repairs. Each road will be completed in one day, with contractors returning 14 days later to rest ironwork, and repaint any road markings or lines covered during the works.
Work will begin on Monday, March 12 and run until Sunday, March 18. It will cover 15 streets in parts of Westcotes, Stoneygate. Evington, North Evington and Belgrave – a total of 23,000 square metres.
Letters have been sent out to the residents letting them know of the works, which involve temporarily closing the roads involved. Parking will also be suspended on the roads while work is underway, and local diversions will be signposted.
The work is costing about £160,000 in total from Leicester City Council’s highways maintenance budget.
