In April 2013 the government’s new rules about benefits started to be introduced. This means you might now receive less money in benefits.
A number of changes may now affect you.
- Under-occupancy, better known as the bedroom tax, means if you live in council or housing association homes and have more bedrooms than the government says you need, your benefits will be reduced
- Benefit capping limits the total amount of benefits you can receive in a week
- Universal credit replaces six different benefits
- Disability benefits have changed, if you have a long-term health condition or disability.
