Citizenship ceremonies

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Home Office has now allowed virtual ceremonies.

The ceremony will be a short and simple session allowing those that have been waiting since lockdown to finally complete the process. It will also be the opportunity for you to swear your oath or affirmation and to make your pledge of loyalty.

After the ceremony, your naturalisation certificate will be sent to you via Royal Mail Special Delivery.

Customers would normally be expected to book their citizenship ceremony within three months of being sent an invitation from the Home Office. Due to the current pandemic circumstances UKVI have extended this period to six months and will keep this under constant review. Customers should be advised that no adverse decisions will be made on applications because of delays caused by coronavirus.

Please email the Home Office Citizenship.Support@homeoffice.gov.uk if the above information does not answer your question.

We at Leicester Register Office are not able to assist further.

Have you received an invitation letter from the Home Office?

If you have received your Home Office invitation letter please email: Citizenship-ceremonies@leicester.gov.uk

In the email please include:

  • your full name,
  • your Home Office reference number
  • you contact telephone number
  • whether you wish to swear the oath or say the affirmation (see below with the pledge of loyalty)

A member of staff will contact you once we have received your certificate to arrange a virtual ceremony by Zoom.
