How we can help

We are offering identity verification for applicants who cannot apply using the Home Office app using an Android device, which doesn’t have Near Field Communication (NFC). 

If your mobile or other device doesn’t have near field communication and you're eligible to apply for settled status, you can bring your ID document to us, where it can be scanned and verified for you. It is also available to those who are eligible and simply want to use a secure service. 

The purpose of the scan is to confirm your identity, so that you'll be able to make an application for settled status. You must not start your application before you attend your appointment. 

We cannot help you beyond verifying your identity. If you need help with the Home Office app, please contact the Home Office help desk on 03333 445 675.

Where do I go for identity verification?

Due to technical issues, there will be no walk-in sessions until further notice.

What do I need to bring with me?

  • your current valid EU passport or valid biometric residence card
  • a mobile phone that can receive text messages or a device that can receive email.

Please note, this service does not currently accept national identity cards. Only the identity documents listed above can be checked. We will not need to keep your identity document and in most cases, you will not be asked to send it anywhere else during your application.

How much will it cost?

The cost of the identity document scanning service is £14 (including VAT). In some cases, the Home Office may ask you to attend a further appointment, or send in your identity document for a decision to be made on your application.
