Vaughan Way improvement works

Further information

As part of my vision to connect Leicester's city centre to its Waterside area, work is underway on the creation of a 'super crossing' across Vaughan Way.

This new crossing forms part of a major development including hotels, office development and high quality public realm. This provides an essential element of connectivity between the city centre and the new Waterside development, which includes housing and new commercial development.

The new crossing will be similar in scope and scale to the crossing we already have outside Leicester's railway station, and will allow our city centre to grow out past the Highcross.

Traffic will no longer be able to access Great Central Street. The area between Great Central Street and Vaughan Way will be transformed with the refurbishment of the old Great Central Station, the building of two new hotels, the creation of 35,000 sq ft of new office space and a new public space.

The super crossing and associated highway works on Vaughan Way and Great Central Street are part of a £50m redevelopment project. Great Central Station has been vacant for almost forty years, and I am looking forward to bringing it back into public use.

The new super crossing on Vaughan Way will link these improvements to our city centre, connecting Leicester to its Waterside. I am excited for the new opportunities for investment this will bring, as businesses and residents move into the area.
