Transforming Cities Fund

We are carrying out an ambitious £71 million citywide programme of investment in sustainable transport, backed by £32.5million from the Department for Transport’s Transforming Cities Fund (TCF). Our aim is to deliver a transformational programme of public and sustainable transport improvements to provide attractive choices for people to get to work, education, local and other facilities supporting the city’s growth and deliver on the council’s climate emergency, air quality and healthy living commitments.

Match funding is being provided through the city council, Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP), local bus operators and other partners.

What is the Transforming Cities Fund?

The Transforming Cities Fund aims to increase productivity and growth in investment in public and sustainable transport. The fund is focused on intra-city connectivity, making it quicker and easier for people to get around – and access jobs in – some of England’s biggest cities.

How will the funding help?

Investment in the following areas will deliver a step change in:

  • public transport
  • cycling and walking activity in the city and Central Leicestershire
  • reducing congestion
  • improving air quality and health outcomes.

This will improve business productivity and unlock substantial private sector investment in key employment sectors, regeneration areas and major housing developments.
