A50/FiveWays junction works
Buckminster Road
Construction works are now complete. The landscaping team have been planting up the new beds and trees are also being planted. We will be looking further at the parking provision in the area in the near future.
Stephenson Drive
Work here is now complete with the mini roundabout removed and a signalised junction installed.
Fosse Road North
All lanes are now fully operational including the bus lane which should only be entered at the point where vehicles want to turn into Bonchurch Street and out of Central Road. Some further ‘Keep Clear’ lining work will be installed at the junction in the near future.
Groby Road
Work on Groby Road is now complete with further works outside the medical centre completed recently to tie into the previously completed works. The bus stop, previously located at the FiveWays junction has now been relocated to the end of the bus lane just before Medina Road.
Blackbird Road
All works are now complete.
Woodgate
Work on the section of Woodgate between the FiveWays junction and Abbey Gate is now complete with benches and trees recently installed. It is also planned to hide the wall opposite the Resources Centre with a mural and the local community will be consulted on this.
Please support the local Woodgate businesses, there are some fantastic shops including a florist, hairdressers, bakery, tattooist, computer repairs and a traditional fish and chip shop as well as other local supermarkets and a newsagent.
Frog Island and North Gate Street
Works between Abbey Gate and Sanvey Gate restarted on 8 January with works now pretty much complete between Abbey Gate and Slater Street. Traffic management restrictions are in place with an inbound road closure in force.
Works to the Abbey Gate junction will take place over half term (19 to 23 February) and there will be no access to Woodgate from Abbey Gate during this time.
North Gate Street and Frog Island will be subject to a full road closure over the Easter holidays (23 March to 5 April) for the road to be resurfaced. Access to Slater Street, North Mills and North Bridge Place will be marshalled.
Details of future phases of work will be publicised nearer the time.
FiveWays junction resurfacing works
The resurfacing works were completed successfully on 25 September 2023. Thank you to all affected by these works for bearing with us. The permanent traffic signals were commissioned on 4 October and temporary signals removed.

A6 Improvements
As part of a major programme of works across the city to help encourage more people to make the shift to sustainable transport, a range of improvements are proposed for the A6 covering St Margaret’s Way and Abbey Lane. The plans would see the introduction of new bus lanes, running in both directions, between Sanvey Gate and Wolsey Street, between Byford Road and Beaumont Leys Lane and between Corporation Road and Thurcaston Road. The existing inbound bus lane between Redhill Circle and Thurcaston Road will be retained.
The scheme has been designed so the new bus lanes will not adversely affect the general flow of traffic and includes plans to introduce a ‘No Stopping Order’ – commonly known as a red route. A new 30mph speed limit would be introduced between Thurcaston Road and the city centre to help manage traffic and make the route safer.
Provision for loading will be provided where needed to ensure that businesses are not affected.
The proposed scheme would also see improvements made to the busy junction of Corporation Road, Beaumont Leys Lane and the A6, with safer pedestrian and cycle crossings introduced. New cycle lanes will be created on Beaumont Leys Lane linking to improvements already underway in that neighbourhood
The planned works will complement improvements recently completed at the Ravensbridge Drive junction and along a section of the A6 between Abbey Park Road and Exploration Drive.
