1295,1301,1304 ROBERT de WILLOUGHBY (3)

1295 ROBERT de WILLOUGHBY.

(16)

Parentage and ancestry not clearly established, but is believed to have been identical with Robert de Wyluby who entered the gild in 1273. He resided near St. Peter's church, was a bailiff 1300, and again mayor in 1301 and 1304.

Members of this distinguished family established themselves in Leic. at an early date, and descendants are mentioned in the local records of the fourteenth century. A Roger de Wylewby occurs as vicar of St. Mary's in 1327.

The above mayor appears to have been a man of a charitable disposition. In 1285 in conjunction with Alice, his wife, he gave a plot of land to the Dominican Friars of Leic. He died about 1310.
