1305  ROGER de WILLOUGHBY.

(20)

Another member of this distinguished family (see No. 16) who according to the records was the son and heir of Nicholas de Wyluby of Leic. In all probability he was a cousin of the preceding mayor; was born about 1276 and died in the prime of life, about 1308, leaving issue. Amice, his wife, still young at the time of his death, administered his estate and shortly afterwards remarried John de Assheby of Quenby, co. Leic. His son and heir, Roger de Willoughby, eventually settled at Barkby, co. Leic., where his descendants continued for a century or more as resident lords.

Arms of Willoughby of Barkby, co. Leic.:- Or, on two bars gules, three water bougets argent, in chief an annulet for difference.

(King Edward I visited Leic. in 1305).
