Supposed to have been a native of co. Derby ; was born about 1465, settled at Leic. where he took up his freedom in 1493~4 and became one of the borough coroners in 1498. In records of the date he is more often called Richard Eyre. By Joane, his wife, he had issue. His name occurs in a Plea roll (No. 991) under date 1510. He died in 1522 and was buried at St. Martin's. Will, dated 25 June 1522, was proved at Leic. the same year. In this lengthy document he styles himself as Richard " Ayre" a form of surname adopted by his descendants.
