1516 JOHN REDE

1516 JOHN REDE,

(140)

(Attorney at Law).

Probably a member of the Stoney Stanton branch of the Rede or Read family. He came to Leic. about 1503, being admitted a freeman as servant of Lord Hastings in that year. In the following year he was nominated as one of the chamberlains, but refusing to serve he paid a fine of £5. In 1509 he was appointed one of the king's pursuivants. Later he filled various local offices, was a J.P. in 1524, and is described in a Star Chamber Proceeding of 1525 as John Rede of Leic., yeoman of the king's crown. He was living in 1535.
