1529 THOMAS BETT,
(151)
(Bellfounder).
Described in the Town roll of the mayors as "Bell Founder in All Saints'," and "ancestor of the Newcombs," whose gravestone is yet in the church. He came to Leic. about 1521 and soon afterwards took up his freedom; married three times and had besides other issue a daughter Katherine, who became the wife of AId. Robert Newcombe of Leic. (No. 165).
AId. Bett died about Christmas 1538. By his will, dated 19 December 1538 and proved in the P.C.C., London, 6 February following, he desired to be buried within All Saints' church. Part of his property he devised unto his son-in-law, Robert Newcombe, who continued with the business of the bellfoundry, which stood nearly opposite All Saints' church.
