Son of John Norris or Norrice of Leic. and a younger brother of AId. William Norrice, mayor in 1567 ; born about 1535, admitted a freeman 1559~60, elected a chamberlain 1572 and a coroner 1583. He married Ellen (------) by whom he had a numerous family.
During his mayoralty, the defeat of the Spanish Armada took place, and to commemorate the event AId. Norrice entertained in a most sumptuous manner, the corporate body and a number of the nobility and gentry of the county, to a feast at the Guildhall. One other event of importance which marked his year of office, was the granting to the local authority by Queen Elizabeth, her first charter of incorporation.
AId. George Norrice died 6 November 1597 (Hall Book) and was buried at St. Margaret's. His will, dated on All Saints' day (1 November) 1597, in which the name is written Norice, was proved in the Prebendal Court of St. Margaret's, Leic., 11 January 1597~8 and later, 23 May 1598, proved in the P.C.C., London. By it, he directed that his body was to be buried in St. Margaret's church.
