1591   RALPH CHETTELL, (Baker and Brewer).

Eldest son of Richard Chettell of Leic.; born about 1540, admitted a freeman 1560~1, joined the corporate body soon afterwards and was elected one of the borough chamberlains 1570, later made an alderman and appointed a J.P. By Isabel his wife, who died in 1597, he had a numerous family (vide St. Martin's registers). He died in 1598 and was buried in St. Martin's church 26 November. By his will, proved at Leic. 1598, he left £5 to be devoted to the purchase of coals for the poor.
