1646 DANNETT ABNEY, (Gentleman).

Second son of Edmund Abney of Leic., gent., and descended from the Abneys of Willesley, co. Derby. He was born at Leic. about 1593, admitted a free burgess 1614~5 being then described as a yeoman; elected a member of the forty~eight, 1624 and an alderman 1646. In 1664 he was taxed in respect of fourteen fi.re~hearths in his house ; married at Ruskington, co. Lincoln, in June 1615 Anne, daughter of Roger Gladwyn, by whom he had issue, five sons and one daughter. By his second wife, Joan Slater, he had no issue.
AId. Abney was again mayor 1660. He died in August 1669 and was buried near the remains of his two wives in the chancel of St. Mary's church 31 August 1669. Will, dated 31 July 1669, was proved at Leic. the same year.
The Abneys entered their Pedigree at the Visitation of co. Leic. 1619 and recorded these Arms :-Or, on a chief gules, a lion passant argent, a mullet for difference. Crest :-A demi~lion rampant or, a pellet between the paws. Plate 3.
