1655   GEORGE MARTIN, (Woollen Draper).

Fourth son of Robert Martin of Anstey, co. Leic., where he was baptized 4 May 1600; He settled at Leic. and was admitted a freeman 1623,4, elected a member of the forty,eight in 1626 and an alderman in 1640, married three times and had issue. Descendants still living.

AId. Martin died in 1657 and was buried at St.

Martin's 19 August. His will, dated 11 August 1657,  was proved in the P.C.C., London, 30 October following.

Arms of the Leicestershire Martins :-Per saltire argent and or, between two bars, three martlets gules. Crest :-A talbot's head erased argent, crusilly, eared and langued gules, gorged with a collar vert.

The Arms on the tablet in Gotham church, Notts., in memory of Rev. Samuel Martin, a descendant of AId. George Martin, are :-Argent, three talbots passant in pale sable
