1675   GEORGE BECKETT, (Innholder).

Second son of Thomas Beckett of Leic.; was baptized at St. Martin's 18 May 1628, admitted a freeman 16 April 1659, elected one of the chamberlains 1663 and an alderman 1668. He married at Stonton Wyville, co. Leic., 14 November 1654 Hannah, daughter of William Fish of Great Bowden, but by her, who died in December 1691, he does not appear to have had any issue.

AId. Beckett was again elected mayor in September 1691. He died at his residence in the Newarke, Leic., towards the close of his second mayoralty, 11 August 1692, aged sixty,four years, and was buried at St. Mary's two days later. M.L formerly to be seen on the North wall there, to him and his wife. His will was proved at Leic. 15 August 1692.

"Near unto this place is interred

the bodies of George Beckett of

the Newark, near Leicester, gent., and Hannah, his wife, he was one of the Aldermen and twice Mayor of this Corporation, they both died in his second Mayoralty, she died on the 27th of December 1691, and he on the 11th of August 1692,

being aged 64 years, her age 59.

This monument was erected for them by his executors anno Dom. 1700."

AId. Beckett, of whom notice has already been made (No. 260), died 11 August 1692, six weeks before complet, ing his second mayoralty. At a Common Hall held 18 August 1692, AId. John Wilkins was chosen supple, mentary mayor to fill the civic chair for the remainder of the term, until 21 September.
