AId. Waiter Hood was a son of Richard Hood, husband~ man, of Normanton le Heath, and Joan his wife, where he was baptized 26 April 1640. He was admitted a free~ man as a "stranger" 1 July 1664, paying a fine of £20, was chosen a member of the forty~eight, 1665, chamber~ lain 1671 and an alderman 1676~7. By his wife Eleanor, daughter of Robert Cotes of Leic., and granddaughter of Aid. Roger Cotes, mayor in 1629, who died 24 and was buried at St. Martin's 27 December 1703, aged sixty~ eight, M.I., he had issue, several children. His eldest son Edward, became mayor in 1709.
AId. Waiter Hood died 5 and was buried at St. Martin's
7 May 1693, aged about fifty,three. M.1. under the altar steps in the chancel, now covered. His will was proved the same year in the Vicar General Court at Leic.
The Hoods are an old Leicestershire family. In 1522 Thomas Hood held the manor of Normanton le Heath and branches became seated later at Mountsorrel and Bardon. Several members of the family were living at Leic. in the seventeenth century. One Edward Hood was a churchwarden of St. Martin's in 1679.
