1721 WILLIAM HAMMOND, (Furrier).

Parentage and ancestry not established. He was admitted a freeman of the borough as a "stranger" 20 September 1698 paying a fine of £20, became a member of the council in 1702, a chamberlain 1706 and an alderman in 1712. By his wife Catherine, who died in 1731, he had several children. Some of his descendants were living later at Whitwick, co. Leic.

AId. Hammond died 3 and was buried in St. Martin's churchyard 5 January 1741,2, aged sixty,three. M.I. to him and his wife formerly to be seen there. Ad, ministration of his personal estate, etc., was granted at Leic. 6 January 1741,2 to his son, John Hammond.
