Third son of AId. Thomas Ludlam, mayor in 1684; baptized at St. Martin's 19 July 1675, enrolled a freeman 24 July 1705, elected a councillor 14 August 1705, chamberlain 1712 and an alderman 6 June 1720 ; married twice but had no issue. In 1723 he presented a silver flagon to St. Mary's church for the communion service. He died 21 and was buried at St. Martin's 25 January 1742,3, aged sixty,seven. M.I. formerly to be seen in the church there. By his will, bearing date 4 November 1742 and proved at Leic. by his nephew, Edmund Ludlam, he left money to St. John's hospital and £100 towards the repairs of Trinity hospital. This will is sealed :-On a chevron three martlets. Crest :-A derni dragon holding in its paws a key. 1727 (Plate 5)
On a flat stone at the south west end of St. Martin's church, now covered :-
"In Memory of Mr. THOMAS LUDLAM,
one of the Aldermen and once MAYOR
of this Corporation
Who died the 21st of January 1742
Aged 67 years.
He was an Example
of Cheerful Sobriety great Piety and unaffected Charity."
