1736 WILLIAM BRUSHFIELD, (Grocer and Mercer).

(314)

Believed to have been a son of William Brushfield, sometime of East Norton, co. Leic., and born about 1689. His ancestors, the Brushfields of Loddington, were people of importance in the reign of Elizabeth. He came from Uppingham to Leic. and by consent of the Hall, took up his freedom as a "stranger" 1 December 1714, became a councillor 1715, elected one of the chamberlains 1726 and an alderman 1730. In 1719 he voted for freehold property at Harborough, was church, warden of St. Martin's 1725, married in 1714 Mary Burbage, widow, of Leic., but does not appear to have left any issue. He died 19 and was buried at St. Martin's 23 January 1760, aged seventy, two. M.I. there.
